Temescal Open Edible Gardens

I founded and lead Temescal Open Edible Gardens, an annual event in which neighborhood fruit and vegetable gardeners open their yards to local visitors to chat about edible gardening and build community. In its second year, the event drew several hundred attendees to 20 neighborhood gardens. As we move into the program’s third year, we’re tapping into neighborhood talent to build an ongoing community for local gardeners that will support learning, resource sharing, fundraising, partnerships with local small businesses, and social gatherings.

What attendees had to say:

“It was superb. The illustrations, the google map, yes, but mostly, the neighborly vibes, meeting people in the area, and just the community of awesome humans who live here getting to showcase themselves! Really made me feel so grateful to live here and excited to participate next year.”

“It was so cool and inspiring to see everyone's spaces, and what they've been growing! And so nice to meet folks who live in the neighborhood, as a new(ish)comer. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming!”

“My partner and I loved how there were a good amount of other people strolling around and asking good questions, the map provided, the balloons to indicate a home was part of the walk, and the diverse group of friendly gardeners.”

A small group of people stand in a path in the middle of tall tomato plants, zucchini bushes, and other plants. It's a bright and sunny day.
